What's the best way to track your customers?

In every business, it's very important to that the customers are kept on sight and in contact with always because once you lose touch with them, your competitors will snap them up immediately. So, having said that, what could be the best way or strategy to employ in helping to track one's customers?


In my experience as a customer, the computer vendor would drop by the office every now and then. Sometimes she would invite me for a snack in the office canteen, sometimes she would bring small tokens. When she would send me an email, that would definitely get a quick response from me since she is always in touch personally.


When I was handling my retailing business, I always check the list of customers by category that is very active, active, not active. The customers who are not active are being visited. It is better to revive an inactive customer than prospecting for a new customer. But now I think it is easier to keep track of customers with the use of social media. Most of the sales people I know have their Instagram and Twitter accounts aside from Facebook.
