Small or big vehicle for transport

It certainly depends on the product that you have in the warehouse regarding the deliveries. For short distances, whether deliveries or shuttling of employees, small vehicles are ideal because of the lower cost of maintenance. But for regular big deliveries particularly to distant locations then the big trucks would be preferred.

There are companies providing free transport to their employees. Some of them have big shuttle buses that are rarely full. A van is now better for that purpose.

I am guessing that bigger vehicles are more appropriate for larger businesses but I might be wrong. I think transporting large quantities regularly would not be too practical to do in smaller increments using small vehicles unless there was a law that made it a little more favorable or something. I think providing shuttle service for employees is a great incentive as well and it doesn't cost much and employees usually do need help in saving money where they can so transport would be a good place to help out as an employer.

In Metro Manila, we have the so called truck ban which disallows big trucks to run on the streets during the daytime. That restricts the deliveries, especially those big container vans coming from the pier. For small trucks with 4 wheels, they are allowed just like any other vehicles so most small businesses have converted their delivery vehicles to the small trucks to bypass the ordinace. And in case of big volume of deliveries, one container van would equal about 4 small trucks. Well, that clearly shows the economical side of big trucks against small trucks.

Yeah I guess that would play a factor in decision making when it comes to this. I think if the math proved to be equal or at least around the same area then it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to substitute big trucks for multiple smaller ones especially considering the benefits of being able to operate during the daytime. If the maintenance and gas would exceed what you would pay for in a big truck and the day time travels don't bring in as much benefits then it wouldn't be a very smart move I think.

I guess, It totally depends on a purpose or the logistics. However, the main rule is not a subject to change: safety is above everything.

I am thinking that a large vehicle would be a more prudent choice. What if u suddenly have a large item to transport? Instead of losing time and probably to go find the a more suitable vehicle than that which is available the larger vehicle could be more efficiently utilised. The larger vehicle enables the business to have an effective contingency tool.

Good point. I guess businesses that transport larger items are left with not much choice. I suppose this is a luxury left mostly for those with mass quantities of smaller items since those are more easily broken down into manageable sizes. I also now just thought about it but it might also make for some additional steps in the system as now the recipient will have to deal with multiple small deliveries instead of just one big one.

I'd say the smallest you can get is generally the best! There might be times though when you want extra emergency room, but as far as costs go, you wouldnt want any extra mass if you could avoid it.

I also go for small delivery vehicles because they are cheaper in fuel and maintenance. Besides, they move faster on the roads when there is heavy traffic. But the great benefit that a business gets from small delivery vehicles is the truck ban, 4-wheel trucks are exempted so they can ply the roads any time of the day or night. And with the driver, it is easier to drive a small vehicle than a big one. That is now the popular move of businessmen, that is to shift to smaller trucks for their delivery requirements.
