By all accounts, targeting a specific age group for a particular job is legal. As a business owner, you have every right to ensure you are hiring people whose qualifications match the jobs available in your establishment. However, if you discriminate against race, ethnicity, religion or gender, then that is another story.

Targeting a specific age group for a job is tantamount to age discrimination. However, if the particular position to be filled up is only fit for a certain age group then it can be easy to justify. For example, a construction worker that is male with age of 18 to 30 only because the job calls for someone who can carry a bag of cement. That age limit on the ad is fully justified. But if the position can be performed by other people outside of the age group, I guess you will have a problem with legality.

I've seen many job ads requiring job applicants be a certain age. Of course at times this can misconstrued as discrimination against younger workers in some industry while in other industries older workers are discriminated against (the tech industry is a good example) but though some people may not like it, it's isn't legal. You need to word you job ad carefully though because there are opportunists who may want to sue you should your ad in some way make it appear that you aren't hiring workers who are over 40.

Only opening a job opportunity up to a certain age group can be classed as age discrimination, but a lot is going to depend on the job vacancy that's being advertised and how the advert is worded also. While you might not be able to say that only specific ages can apply, what you can do is list the duties that the job involves and so that would maybe make older people not take it any further.

An older worker isn't going to apply for a job where they will be on their feet for 9 hours a day and carrying heavy items around. If you include that job description in the advert, you'll almost guarantee that you will only get younger applicants but without getting yourself in trouble.

I view this act as age discrimination. When I see an advertisement stating the upper age limit for a job is 30-years I wonder what's the motive behind that decision. What makes a 30-year old more capable than a 35-year old or a 40-year old person? This makes me wonder if some of the companies people who don't have a lot of experience so that they can exploit them by not having to pay them the salary and requisite perks that would befit a more seasoned person.

I am not too sure but I am guessing it is legal in some way otherwise some industries wouldn't last. Probably your best bet is to at least have a good justification of why you need a specific age group and can't do with any other option. Also to be completely safe maybe try consulting with a professional so you can make your decision with a lot more confidence.

Specific age is common in wanted ad for job positions. I understand that some jobs require young people like in promotions of a consumer product or an athletic item. But even for ordinary job positions like a clerical job also includes age as a requirement. The Philippines has no law against age discrimination yet hence advertisers are having a heyday.

I think there are certain companies who have age limits and I believe it's legal and all companies have the right to set such rules. Particularly depending on what kind of job do they offer. I think the some of the companies that does not have age limits are BPOs. Not sure by this but when I was still in a BPO company, we have colleagues who are grannys and they can work fine :)

I do not believe so. As long as you make it clear and you do not discriminate or anything, I would not see this as a problem. I could be wrong though just now that I am thinking about it, but either way it is a pretty interesting question.

I don't think there is any issue to ask for age factor while posting job advertisements. At least it is not an issue in our country. Both private and public job offers often show the required age limit of candidates. I think as it is company's responsibility to pay for the workers they should be at free to go for a particular age group. In all public job advertisements age requirements are clearly stated and Government is very strict on this. In private companies they may take a lenient view if you got a lot of experience in that particular field.

Private firms usually look for young professionals and very few of them are ready to take aged people. One field that usually look for aged people is insurance sector. They usually need a lot of people to work as field agents and insurance advisers.

IN think it's legal to target a specific age group for employment. Employers of labor would like to hire people who are still in their good productive ages The same is applicable to public workers. In some locations if you have attained the age of 45 you are hardly employable in public sectors.
