Customer Tracking/CRM

Do you use a CRM like SugarCRM or one of the many alternatives out there. Do you have anyone that actively updates your entries and do you make good use of the information? A properly utilized CRM can be a goldmine when looking for repeat sales and service. I have worked at spome places that have a CRM in place, but they don't fully utilize it. They treat it like a glorified phone book.

Re: Customer Tracking/CRM

No matter what system you have in place to track your customers, this is something that every company should be more diligent in doing. I have a small side business that is completely a service company, but customers also buy products from me occasionally. I track and write down every single thing I know about a customer. If they mention their kids names, I write it down and ask them about their kids during the next contact. If they only buy something once a month, I try not to bug them more than twice a month, but realize if they go more than four weeks without contact with me, that something is up. Every single piece of information you learn about a customer has the potential to be valuable. Write it down and use it! It will make even the smallest customer feel important and increase their loyalty towards you and your company.

You are spot on here. I couldn't agree more. What I'm wondering though is if any of you work for or own a company using a CRM but fails to utilize this goldmine of data. I worked at a place that was really good at inputting all the info, but I'm not sure they made use of it later. Everything @Lisa Davis said was right though, save and use that info anyway you can. The more you know about your customers the better.

Yes, knowing your customers and keeping in touch will definitely be a plus for your business. This is an effective way of developing goodwill for your company which is a valuable asset for any business. This will also enable you to be better able to solve any problems that may arise in during a transaction with the customer because the communication line would be more amicable.
