I've recently read some articles on APS, can anybody provide some insight into available systems
- Names of systems
- Likely costs, both licence and implementation
- Maintenance costs

I wonder if anyone has done a broad cost/benefit analysis on these systems? They seem so expensive.

I think a lot of companies are now developing their own more simple systems as the 'big' IT systems are so cumbersome and expensive to implement. Many companies only need a simple APS that can be built to meet their needs.

I tend to think that it is often a case of the 'Microsoft' factor. For example, a company has SAP, then they are looking for a forecasting system or a warehouse management system. The easy choice from an implementation and interfacing issue is probably to go with SAP. Just means it will cost a lot, and may not have the functionality of a 'best of breed' approach :)
