Exclamation Can we achieve Supply Chain Management Cost Reduction this way?

Ever increasing customer expectations, supply chain becoming more and more complex driven by globalization, increased volatility and shrinking margins have put much higher pressure on managing your shipping costs and time. This, when combines with shortages of drivers, trucks, railcars, ocean slots, ports and escalating fuel costs, becomes a nightmare for a supply chain executive.
A lot of organizations have already embraced technology to get better visibility into their transportation budget and operations. It has helped them in keeping the transportation costs checked and manage consolidation & globalization of outsourcing suppliers. But, the question I raised in one of the recent discussions at a supply chain forum, that how far software alone can help you in this regard? Is the software enough to take out of all operational issues or you will need to transform the practices also in your organizations to reach the goal? Of course, there are no prizes for guessing that both the approaches are required but what should take precedence? Can there be strategy around this?

    Does this guide helps?

Software is a big help and based on our experience, it has greatly lessened the cost of our supply chain section. The ordering system is done via email - order form is forwarded to signatories for approval, returned and forwarded again to the purchasing department with copy furnished the warehouse custodian. By that procedure alone, we used to print the order form and route its hardcopy. Definitely, software is a factor in reducing the cost. But to take away all the operational issues? I guess that's not the case.

Supply chain management contains a lot of processes, so it can't easily handle manually. SCM software aids to take care of Inventory, orders, billing, suppliers records and stock details. Apart from some strategies should be consider to pick up the suitable software. There are plenty of sources available in real time, these multiples choices occur little confusion. My suggestion is better to go with cloud-based programs for SCM, you can easily understand tool flow, cost-effective, integrated application and ease of use. We've been using Apptivo for manage supply chain process. If you are looking for software, try to choose the suitable software else to design any innovative ideas.

Technology can only do so much. We need to be aware of its limits. At the end of the day, it's the people who decide and use technology. How it is being used will therefore be a crucial factor to the success of any supply chain. Technology by itself will help you get organized but if there are no rules or systems to adhere to, the purpose of technology won't be met.

There is software that is available which will eliminate some of the costs associated with the transportation and delivery of goods. This software may be able to direct the transportation process but it will not be able to solve all the related problems because it will not be able manage the physical aspects. It can't move physically move a vehicle or change a tyre that has been punctuated.

Every year, $11.5 Billion dollars of recyclable products are thrown into landfills. 70% of the recoverable material is plastic and is worth over $8 Billion dollars. This has resulted in growing consumer demand for sustainable and socially responsible products, as over 50% of global consumers are willing to pay more for products from socially and environmentally responsible companies. Now, a growing number of new suppliers like Ecoark with limited understanding of big-box retail operations and supply chain management are seeking technologies and processes to capitalize on this market potential, converting plastic waste into new consumer goods to be sold in retail stores across the United States.
