Default Is it necessary to go to college?

Is it necessary to go to college to study IT, I mean I know a lot of computers and hardware and I was wondering is it even worth it? I really need to use some advice.

I would have to say that yes it is necessary, I know that experience is essential but qualifications and appropriate training are so important. You will also learn so much at college and it will be an enriching part of your life so I would suggest that if it is affordable and practical then go for it and see how you get on!

I will give it a shot and see how it works out. The problem is the language barrier for me, I'm not so good in Hebrew which is the native language of Israel, at least not good enough eventhough I lived here all my life, I didn't have to speak it because my parents aren't native Hebrew speakers. I don't know how I would be able to make it, I needed a little bit of comfort. What do you think?

I'm actually anti-college (university) at the moment. My student debt is enormous and there is very little work out there for people in my profession. But I'm not alone. So many professions are inundated with recent graduates- young middle-class, intelligent people who went to college because it was seen as the thing to do to secure a comfortable and successful future. I can honestly say that of my peers, those who went to college are worse off. We have massive debts and few job prospects. Those who did a trade, got paid like serfs to begin with, but are now earning triple figures in their 3rd year as a qualified tradie. And if you're actually skilled with technology (as I'm assuming you are) the way technology is increasing exponentialy in our lives I'm sure if you hone your skills and find your niche, formal educaiton or not, you will become invaluable to someone's company.

That's really sad, I'm sorry to hear that. Could you tell me more about your story so that I know more about it. I'm very interested in people who regret going to college, could you tell me about your profession, like explain more about your history in college and all.

I think there has to be a happy medium between the two, in certain professions a good mix of Qualifications and Experience are essential. If you can combine studying whilst working in the trade then you are on a to a winner and will be always be top of the pile in the Recruiting process.

It is not always easy to achieve this though.

I would suggest look at suitable college / university courses that cover your field that you wish to enter, and approach companies with this as a bargaining tool, offer to work in some cases for a minimum wage and in return ask for a part funding of your course. Not only does this show initiative but also shows that you are willing to negotiate and compromise, all excellent qualities to have.

If you are successful ask for staggered pay increases as each section of your college work is completed.

You will be benefiting the company as you are learning by applying newly acquired skills to the role, whilst you in turn are learning a trade, and gaining a qualification at the same time.

Don't let language become a barrier, either learn it, or go somewhere where it isn't a barrier.

It is not exactly necessary, but in order for many jobs to take you seriously, it is paramount that you go to college. Employers usually want someone who graduated from college.

The problem is I can't just go anywhere because I can't afford it. It's so expensive to study abroad and it's really difficult. I have been tryign to learn the language and it's insanely hard and I just can't seem to grasp it, even though, I do try. So I don't know what to do.

I would say that you should try to study in your country and see where that takes you. If there are any courses that are good for you in your country, then be patient.

You're right. I will be patient and try my best, if I couldn't then I would have to drop out, and see what would happen from there.
