Re: whats the best supply chain management strategies?

I commend the other posters here for their input but I think there should be a bit of room for flexibility when it comes to operating a good supply chain. Those mentioned above are great strategies and many supply chains adhere to them. However, they are generic in nature so to call them best strategies is somewhat of a misnomer. The best strategies are actually in the details. They differ from one supply chain to another. But despite the minor differences, the goal is the same: maximum productivity and efficiency.

Those strategies have a very coherent implementation. You can't plan a suppy chain strategy without handling first insightful knowledge about current demand behaviour. An adaptive supply chain allows to withstand a sudden change in the current market which directly affects your business. To Achieve sustainability and profitable innovation can be pretty challenging but rewarding nevertheless.

Re: what's the best supply chain management strategies ?

Supply chain management operates at three levels: strategic, tactical, and operational. At the strategic level, company management makes high-level strategic supply chain decisions that are relevant to whole organizations. The decisions that are made with regards to the supply chain should reflect the overall corporate strategy that the organization is following. The strategic supply chain processes that management has to decide upon will cover the breadth of the supply chain. These include product development, customers, manufacturing, vendors, and logistics. Some companies like Ecoark accomplish this by using complicated logistics tools, such as computer algorithms that choose optimal routes for product shipping and large company databases that allow distant employees to pool order information and coordinate their efforts in real time.

Hi is this for a business or personal study?

It will matter as to defined feedback given.

If its for your own business or work placement, I would consider streamlining and weighing up costs and balances of a global supplier network and consider local national or neighboring country product sourcing to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.

In current economic situations there are better deals made locally it just takes time to make good deals.

Some of the above answer are good but you also have given much info what market are you targeting e.g. the wine industry or the auto industry.

Initial location and setup are critical to sustainability and allow for cash flow, so the term strategies is lacking first in many areas of importance that will hinder a supply chain.

If its for study I suggest look at online case studies and continual improvement development within that business as a process of refinement.

Look at it like a "THINK TANK" in terms of what do you want to achieve.

But the question your asking is give me a recipe for pasta like for a restaurant?
                  • Which type of pasta is requested?
                  • What sauce?
                  • What condiments needed?
                  • What vegetables to use?
                  • What side dish salad type do you need?
                  • How many servings on average?
                  • Where to buy ingredients?
                  • What wine to serve with?
                  • What time to serve?
                  • What bread to serve with?
                  • How often do you want this meal served?
                  • Cost to make and serve per dish?
                  • What profit is made?
                  • Is this the best dish to serve in this market location?

So once you have the critical elements or framework "BRAIN STORMED" then you start to expand looking for ways to provide a service to make a profit and continually improve the supply chain strategy.

Honestly the best case studies to read and study are the large organizations like Microsoft, Dell, IBM, Toyota etc.......

Instead of randomly mentioning strategies (that may not make much sense without detailed descriptions), I’ll tell you about how to develop a supply chain strategy.
Assess the Business Goals – Your supply chain strategy should be aligned with your business goals (like do you want to be a lowest cost provider or you wish to amaze your clients)
Understand the Extended Supply Chain – Determine the dependencies your company has on other suppliers
Assess the Business Resources – Take stock of your company’s assets (how old is the machinery, what kind of tools or equipment is available) and human resource.
Choose the Right Software – This is a critical decision, as the software would impact the processes and the efficiencies in the system. This will also impact your implementation plan, performance metrics, roles and responsibilities and timelines.
Development Considerations – Like how you wish to include your partners, if any.
