  • Dealing with fake or copycats products in the market?

Serious competition leads to some businesses or companies employing wired strategies in order to beat their business competitors for the patronization of the prospective customers in the market. The issue of fake products or copycats products flooding the market is somehow very critical to deal with because when they fail to take appropriate precautions in getting the customers to know and differentiate the original products from the manufactured copycats, it's most likely going to have serious adverse effects on the reputation of the company.

In your opinion, what strategies can be used to deal with the issue of pirates or copycats products in the market?

There is a place right in the heart of Manila where most of the vendors are selling fake products. The warehouse is situated near the mall where the stores are located. It is so difficult to compete with them if you are selling branded and original products because of the price consideration that buyers would always opt for the cheap ones even if they clearly know that the products are fake. Pardon me for saying this but that area in Manila is deluged with cheap products from China with the majority are fake and imitation.

Fake products have penetrated the market and you can be fooled if you do not know which is original and which is fake. Making it worse, the sellers of fake items make it appear that they are selling the branded products although it is on sale so the price is much cheaper. This issue is a job for the government’s trade department and they should be strict in implementing the law against counterfeit products.

Seriously, this is a very big problem for genuine original businessmen because it's definitely going to be almost impossible to compete with those selling the fake products and as a result of how cheap those fake products are sold, so many buyers who don't care about quality jump ship to patronize such cheap fake products. My question is what can be done to cut this phenomenon or put them out of business? Can the government do anything to help out? Market union?

There are sellers in the internet of products that are supposed to be original but would turn out to be fake. Even if the scheme of sale is COD, it is too difficult to recognize a fake from an original if the product is a personal accessory like handbag or necklace. The advice is to buy only from noted sellers when you are shopping online because we really cannot tell if the product is legit when the seller is an individual.

A notable number of such online internet sellers are not only selling fake products but are also bunch of scammers. A few friends of mine who are too addicted to making online purchases have fallen a victim to such internet scam sellers. This is actually the main reason why I don't personally purchase from any internet store that is not popular with lots of positive reviews.
