  • Supply Chain Setup for Acquisitions and Procurement Services?

    Hi,

I am a very new member to this forum in addition to being very new to the Supply Chain field of work.

In light of this, the organization I work for is currently implementing Supply Chain Management.

My question is, we have two departments that we are currently looking at and deciding whether they should be one or two different departments.

The first is the Acquisitions and Requisitions Dept. whose basic role will be to review allotted budgets and plan the acquisitions of commodities by reviewing item specifications, verifying stock levels etc.

The second being Procurement section whose responsibility will be to source for vendors after all required documentation has been approved and submitted to their office.

Will there be a conflict of interest if these two departments are merged?

Should they be left as separate offices or not?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Cheers,
    Val

    Hi Val,

Welcome to supplychainforum. I am sure you will enjoy your time here.

Regarding your question, what I can deduce from your outline above is that you have a purchasing (acquisition and requisition department) as well as sourcing (finding new vendors) departments.

How this should be set up in a company would depend on how the company views supply chain. I do not see how there can be conflict of interest because they have distinct roles as you explained above yet they should be under the same umbrella for seamless communication.

      Hi Val,

It seems to me that the two functions, in most businesses, would fall under Procurement...

I think India only leads in the IT sector. They're really competent in the programming and software development side. Most customer service and KPO accounts, however, are outsourced to the Philippines because Filipinos have a more neutral accent and can pass off for native speakers.
