  • Fashion versus corporate image

I am currently in Tokyo and I have noticed that male employees are wearing suit and tie while the female office workers are dressed in semi formal attire. Also noticeable are the very few office workers with colored hair. No male have earrings either. We asked and the reason given was the tradition of Japan with their standard office attire. It was short of saying that you may not be hired if your hair is dyed or if you have a tattoo. I like that office culture.

I have noticed that HR officers are now aware of the fashion statement vis--vis the office uniform of their company. But I would suggest that they have to give more weight on the corporate image because some fashion designers have the tendency to create out of this world outfit just to be different. The decency of the attire should always be there particularly the defining symbols of the company.
