    The Logistics Manager at Better World Books is at the center of our Supply Chain. This person will oversee the daily operation of the Logistics Department from freight booking, client support to local pick up management. In this position the proper candidate will be asked to support our Acquisitions, Drop Box, and Operations Departments with cost effective logistical solutions that will help us meet not only our internal Key Performance Goals but our overall company financial goals. The Logistics Manager at Better World Books will be the key contact for all our supply chain vendors and will strive to attain cost effective relationships that not only meet our financial goals but our client’s expectations.
    We are looking for someone that has at least 5 years logistics experience in creating a support system for supply chains that stretches not only across the US, but Canada as well. Our prime candidate should have knowledge of customs requirements as they pertain to import/export to Canada as well as experience in moving product between multiple distribution centers. If you have had experience in helping to establish new distribution centers, then we can benefit from having you on our team. Experience in building a portfolio of reliable vendors and logistics partners as well as experience in logistic software implementations could make you one of our top picks.

    • Manage the supply chain from client to dock for all inbound freight
    • Achieve cost effective shipping solutions for all inbound freight, outbound bulk orders and outbound Drop Box Deployment.
    • Manage our outbound recycling program engaging in performance analysis as well as environmental standard achievements.
    • Accountable for supply chain performance improvements, including supplier certification and the supplier SOP process.
    • Works closely with relevant functional areas and assigns resources to supply chain performance improvement projects.
    • Help in the creation and execution of the fiscal plan as it pertains to logistics and responsible for reporting on Key Performance Indicators.
    • Manages department resources, providing focus, motivation and encouragement to direct reports. Responsible for coaching, developing and mentoring department resources.
    • Responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of direct reports, including development, capability building and succession planning. Leads efforts to improve communications and align logistics with operations and Acquisition groups.

    • College or university degree, preferably in Supply Chain and/or Logistics Management or Industrial Engineering
    • Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or 6 Sigma
    • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Develop and deploy creative/original solutions to complex problems
    • Ability to evaluate terms/conditions/regulatory requirements as well as be able to analyze cost-benefits while negotiating contract and vendor agreements, which result in mutually beneficial outcomes
    • Ability to establish and monitor policies and guidelines
    • Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
